When the homeowners of this house moved in, this bedroom was a quite blank canvas – it had brand‐new suited carpets but all else was neutral. The couple did not have any furniture to load it with, but slightly than rush to load the space, they resolved to snooze in it as it was so they can achieve a preferable feel for the room and what decor will work best in it. They were absolutely clear on what they needed, in proposition: a hotel‐style bed, lots of clutter‐destroying storage and a dressing table too. It was demanding a big compromise from a justly little space, but by bringing their time the couple discovered solutions.
'For a while it felt rather odd snoozing in a vacant box. However it did give us time to function out what we needed. We knew all will benefit from a new coat of paint, so we utilized a crisp cream tone on the walls and painted the woodwork glossy white. While the carpet wasn't my choice, it looked silly to adjust it. So we gave it a reliable clean, and even at that stage the space began to sense more homely.'
The couple needed a bed with a wide upholstered headboard, and they discovered a base that ticked all the box – and which had plenty of unseen storage too – on eBay. 'In a little cabin, extra storage is a gratuity so we were very pleased. And it’s incredibly comfortable too!'
Bedroom storage was a|an key|n precedence to assure the compact space keeped clutter‐free. 'Once the bed was in place we resolved to suit a run of cupboards to keep all neatly folded aside. We each now have our own cupboard, as well as drawers. I love the tidy, sleek design.'
Existing in the space for a while before adorning assisted the twosome realise certain items about the room, one of which was that their option of window dressing was essential. 'The sunlight comes streaming in, which is lovely during the week, but not ideal when you want to own a lounge‐in at the weekend!'
The couple liked the inspiration of a layered window dressing: 'I like the luxurious air of both a blind and curtains, and discovered lovely striped Roman blinds for a base. ' The couple chose a neutral set of curtains with a soft leaf print that fits in with the nature‐inspired theme elsewhere in the room. 'I pioneered lots of soft, natural motifs and tones, which creates our room calm and relaxing.'
By now the bedroom was functional, but wanted some styling. The homeowners had constructed a Pinterest board, which highlighted a slackened botanical vibe, and were keen to find ways to make this in their home without stretching their budget too far.
'I needed an artwork to hang above the bed but could not find anything I liked. While browsing Pinterest I saw an inspiration for making wooden plank art, so I gave it a go. ' The effect, a distressed‐wood focal point highlighting soothing tones and a colored meadow‐grass design, blends beautifully with a choice of botanical‐inspired cushions that dress the bed. 'I needed to find cushions with the kind of images you discover in natural history books – I bought panel designs and sewed them myself,' says the homeowner.
'I needed a dressing table that will fit in a limited space, and discovered a console and stool that were not planned for a bedroom but which I knew will work absolutely. With a wooden top and iron legs it had the rustic vibe that I was after, ' says one of the homeowners.
It was so simple to make the panelled wood wall art that the homeowners chose do make another ornamental panel, hanging it by the dressing table to tie different areas of the room together a small more. This panel is more functional, highlighting a display ledge and wall hooks to hang jewellery on.
If you have a tricky room to load, it’s a reliable inspiration to seem at all kinds of furniture, not just bedroom sets. 'I knew a nest of lamp tables will be great by the bed, ' says the homeowner. The compact design they chose looks tidy in a little bedroom, but has plenty of room for vintage style lamps, alarm clocks and other bedside essentials. With the same finish as the dressing table and stool, they assist make a cohesive space.
The bedroom looks quite different from the uninteresting, blank canvas that the homeowners inherited. By being creative and making, modifying and crafting decor and accessories, slightly than getting ready‐made pieces that do not absolutely fit the brief, the couple have achieved exactly what they needed, frequently at half the cost. 'We've built our very own look – it’s what we have adored most about planning this room,' they say.
