This smart kitchen is in a two‐bedroom flat in London and the homeowner fell in love with its high ceilings and neutral decor. Having always adored interiors she was excited to be proficient to adorn exactly how she needed, exceptionally as she before lived in a flat share and was limited on what she can change. Lots of moodboards and magazine browsing later she conveyed the plunge. 'I'm a big enthusiast of vibrant tones, 'she says, 'and as the kitchen was sage green, I resolved to lighten it up with copper and coral colors.
'I needed to add a touch of tone and pattern to the neutral scheme and display my favourite kitchen accessories. I was also keen to include a room for a little table and chairs.'
Being a big enthusiast of upcycling furniture, also having absolutely a tight budget, the homeowner raided her parents' loft for anything that can be given a new lease of life.
The chalkboard wall appends a fun unit to the space, while also being functional. 'Ever since I first saw a chalkboard wall in a magazine, I've like the inspiration, and so the same weekend I moved in I achieved to function on one!'
Utilizing accessories is a great way to add character to neutral decor. This vibrant print and glassware quickly creates the room feel more homely and offer a great burst of tone.
The homeowner discovered a kitchen trolley and place it to good use. 'It had been assembly dust in my dad’s garage, so I nabbed it to make an extra worktop and a piece more storage. I painted it with chalk paint to offer it a piece of character and appended a metal rail to hang tea towels.'
Appending pops of neon tone creates the kitchen look bright and fun. 'To lighten up the neutral units, I chose coral‐toned accessories.'
Making little pockets of displays is another great way to add a homely touch. 'I discovered this brass tray in my parents' loft and utilize it to arrange items I like.' A metallic tray is also a pleasant way to offer the room a little charm.
The kitchen before the renovation. 'I'm really pleased with the approach my kitchen converted out,' says the homeowner. 'It’s stunning how, with just a few simple touches, you could really offer it character. The only item I'd want to do is to achieve a tiled backsplash – I'm saving up for some splendid marble‐effect tiles.'
