When the homeowners bought an unfinished cabin bungalow in Surrey, 14 years ago, they knew they will have to create some short‐term compromises. 'It was our turn to own a big detached property, but we had to accept that we would not be proficient to do what we needed to it for a few years, as we wanted to save up first. ' The couple put in a cheap temporary kitchen and made do until they had the funds to make their ideal space. They spent the time carefully arranging out the change, which included adjusting the back of the house to make an open‐plan kitchen‐diner and an orangery.
